Who should be in charge of a multi-generational business?

In my view the person who is closest to age 50 should be in charge.

This is the peak age for a combination of strength, youth, knowledge, experience and up-to-dateedness.

In some situations the oldest generation remains in charge until death however I don't think that is fair to the younger generations or the family in general.
