Australian law with some suggested clarification



1.

Theft

it's against the law to take an item from a person's house, car, office building, person (pockets, 

handbag etc) or from a shop without paying for it.

It's against the law to touch private parts of a person's body if the person does not want that to 

happen themselves, and always not permitted if the person is under 16 years of age.





Assault

Any damage to a person's body by hitting, punching, stabbing etc is against the law. In general there 

would have to be some damage of some kind, even minor damage, however in some cases pushing would also 

fall under this issue.




Tresspass


Members of the public may travel around the following locations

	public streets, libraries, parks, beaches.


You cannot go into the following buildings without permission of the person or people who live there
	
	office buildings, private clubs, a person's house or apartment,


During open hours it's permitted to go into shops, cafe's, bars etc unless a problem is being caused.





Fraud

It's against the law to make a statement that isn't true in the process of negotiating a business 

transaction.

Commercial/non-criminal law

contracts

If you sign a written agreement with someone in relation to a business situation (i.e. generally involving money, not personal issues or 

activities) and don't fulfill the actions listed for yourself in the contract, the other party may have a claim for compensation from 

yourself for losses suffered in relation to that agreement.




defamation


It's against the law to make negative comments about a person, especially in relation to their competence in professional activities or 

to make accusations of misconduct.


this doesn't cover arguments between friends however it does cover situations where rumours could damage a person's reputation and affect 

their income-earning capacity.




negligence

in some industries, professions and activities a person must perform the work to a suitable standard, or may face being sued and possibly 

needing to make a financial settlement.

this includes medicine, law, etc.
